The Southwestern Company Tubes

About the Southwestern Company Tubes

I am the Online Resources Manager at The Southwestern Company in Nashville TN. This blog is by no means the ‘official view’ of the Southwestern Company (or anyone else for that matter) or even an “insiders view” of the Southwestern Company. It’s just a rambling of my personal experience here as I start a new job and a way for my friends and family back home and around the country (moving every 6 months for campaign work, see below) to see what I’m up to. If you’re curious where “serious of tubes” comes from, here is the Wikipedia link.

The Southwestern Company is known for its summer program in which around 3,400 students sell books door to door (yes, books…door to door….in the internet age). In fact, the average first time a student dealer participates in the Southwestern Company summer program, they earn nearly $8,000!

I sold books as a student dealer for the Southwestern Company in the summers of 2001 and 2002. In July of 2008 I came back to the company as was hired in the role of Online Resources Manager. That means I have very little technical (and no coding) skills but instead will be working out of the Communications Department and coordinating our Online Brand building.

Due in large part from what I learned with the Southwestern Company (selling books door to door during the summer) I was very successful at my chosen profession in political consulting with a specialization in Online Outreach and Finance (although my heart always remained in the Field dept. FIELD WINS!).
